Frenectomy
Release tongue and lip ties with gentle laser treatment.
Frenectomy Explained
A frenectomy is a simple procedure that releases a tight frenulum - the small band of tissue connecting the tongue to the floor of the mouth (tongue tie) or the lip to the gums (lip tie). At Wilson Dental Associates, Dr. Wilson performs frenectomies using advanced laser technology, which means less discomfort, minimal bleeding, and faster healing than traditional surgical methods.

Frenectomy Details
Tongue Tie (Ankyloglossia)
Tongue tie occurs when the frenulum under the tongue is too short or tight, restricting movement. In infants, this can cause difficulty breastfeeding. In children and adults, it may affect speech, eating, or oral hygiene. Releasing the tie restores full range of motion and can improve function significantly.
Lip Tie
A lip tie occurs when the tissue connecting the upper lip to the gums is too tight or extends too far. This can affect an infant's ability to latch during breastfeeding and may cause gaps between the front teeth as a child grows. Lip ties can also make brushing the front teeth uncomfortable.
Why Laser Frenectomy
Laser frenectomy offers significant advantages over traditional surgery. The laser cauterizes as it cuts, resulting in minimal bleeding and reduced risk of infection. Most patients require only topical anesthesia, and healing is typically faster with less discomfort. The procedure takes just a few minutes.
